Relationships in an ecosystem

Biocenesis and biotope are closely related and influence each other

All living creatures interrelate to:

  • Eat
  • Protect themselves
  • Reproduce

Food relationships are important because living creatures eat one another.  They form food chains.

Plants and algae make their own food from the nutrients in the soil using the sunlight. So, all the food chains start with a plant. Then an herbivore animal eats the plants. Next a carnivore animal eats the herbivore. All food chains have at least three living creatures but they can be longer.
